Casey’s Backpack for Kids Program gives children backpacks, not for books, but for food.  Each Friday, students receive a backpack to take home filled with nutritious food and snacks.  They return the empty backpacks on Monday, to be refilled and taken home the next weekend.  This is a new program this year and it is just in the beginning stages of implementation.  The program is being sponsored by the Stanley United Methodist Church and other local churches in the Stanley area.  Our first delivery date was January 27, 2012. Approximately 120 students participate at this time.

The hope for the program is that no child will go hungry over the weekend.  The plan is to send  larger selections home over breaks from school, such as spring, winter and Thanksgiving.
